The Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of Rostec) is настроен to produce 20 Tu-214 units annually. This was announced by the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, although there are currently no orders for the aircraft.
According to him, to solve such a problem, KAZ needed to create a new production infrastructure. This refers to the construction of assembly and aggregate workshops, a machining plant, and logistics centers.
They are all in the final stage. We are now importing machines, training people. We will still build these 20 aircraft per year.
In December, KAZ raised the first Tu-214 into the sky since 2022, but the RA-64536 still does not have the right to carry passengers. The aircraft has a lengthy certification process ahead, and it is unknown how long it will take.
Recall that the topic of production at KAZ has long been an object of criticism. Honored Pilot of Russia Alexander Garnaev stated to «Первому техническому» that it is impossible to resume production of the Tu-214 now.
However, a few days ago, Azur Air admitted the possibility of purchasing Kazan liners. The carrier may become the first customer of the Tu-214 after the publication of the Comprehensive Program for the Development of the Civil Aviation Industry until 2030.
