“Knyaz Vandal” fiber optic drone turned into a “sleeper” for ambushes

The famous drone was modernized at the SPC “Ushkuynik”

Russian military personnel began using “Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky” fiber optic drones as an ambush “sleeper drone”. This was announced by the General Director of the Scientific and Production Center (SPC) “Ushkuynik” Alexey Chadaev.

According to him, a major modernization was carried out for this purpose. Engineers changed the operation of the drone, and purely technically, the device’s range was increased thanks to coils with an increased range.

Now drones are completely different devices than those that flew a year and a half ago. The development and technical improvement of the “Knyaz Vandal” is based not only on the engineering thought of the development team, but on a structured, statistically processed stream of failures, requests, situations, and some application scenarios.

Chadaev added that the appearance of an electronic target sensor on the device became another major modernization. The sensor allows the drone to be detonated both from the operator’s console and upon contact with the target.

Earlier it became known that Russian engineers had developed a new fiber optic module for strike drones with a range of 65 km. Now, in this parameter, they have become comparable to the best examples of Western artillery weapons — M982 Excalibur Block IA-2 and Vulcano.
