Экс-конструктор «Сухого» призвал не выдавать двигатель ПД-8 за технологический прогресс

The power plant for the SJ-100 has yet to prove itself in action

The new Russian aircraft engine PD-8 should not be passed off as technological progress ahead of time; the power plant has yet to prove itself in action. This was stated by Vadim Lukashevich, former designer of the Sukhoi Design Bureau.

The engineer noted that Russia has not yet managed to create an engine that reduces the dependence of transportation on various risks, including those associated with weather-related collapses.

But to pass it off as technological progress is too ambitious; it remains to be seen.

The specialist also assessed the power plant's moisture resistance tests. He recalled that all engines created in Russia undergo such tests as part of mandatory certification according to a number of parameters, including those related to climate.

This was also the case in the USSR. The fact that the PD-8 passed the moisture resistance test is, first of all, a necessary requirement, otherwise there would be no engine.

Rostec State Corporation showed a video of the process of manufacturing parts of the PD-8 aircraft engine for the SJ-100 aircraft. The video included unique footage of 3D printing of the oil sump, an important element of the power plant's oil system.
