The Yakovlev aircraft factory has received 24 air purification converters developed at Tomsk State University (TSU) for aircraft cabins. Production capacity is sufficient to provide converters for all new and old Russian aircraft, the TSU press service reported.
All products have passed certification tests at JSC Kristall and have been transferred to the manufacturer, Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
According to international safety regulations, ozone converters are installed in the cabins of all aircraft: from four to six in large aircraft, and two in small aircraft. Previously, converters were manufactured only in Germany and the USA, but now such production has appeared in Russia.
This production will help solve one of the strategically important tasks for the country in the development of domestic aircraft construction. Demand for converters will increase even more soon, as the Russian aviation industry plans to significantly increase its pace. For example, PJSC Yakovlev will supply 45 MC-21 Smartavia aircraft. The corresponding agreement was signed in the autumn of 2024 as part of the IX Eastern Economic Forum.
Oleg Magaev, Head of the TSU Laboratory of Catalytic Research, noted that the domestic converter is significantly superior to foreign counterparts in terms of efficiency.
