To begin a deep modernization of the legendary An-2, the aircraft had to officially become a nine-seater. This was announced by the head of Rosaviatsiya, Dmitry Yadrov.
According to him, obtaining the certificate finally secures SibNIA's status as the aircraft developer and opens up the possibility for modernizing the machine, including engine replacement within the framework of the Ministry of Industry and Trade program.
Perhaps an important, though it will be said with a bit of humor, event was that on July 3 we signed the type certificate for the An-2 aircraft.
The issuance of the An-2 certificate will allow the aircraft to be modernized and modifications to be created based on it, explained Gennady Abramenkov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
That is, now we can re-engine it with the new VK-1200 engine, which ODK is currently developing. We can change, in fact, the instruments that are on board. Make various modifications.
The first flight of the An-2 took place back in 1947. Today, 49 such aircraft are used in commercial transportation, and another 358 are used for aviation work. According to modern aviation standards, it is forbidden to carry more than 9 passengers on a single-engine aircraft for commercial purposes.
The LMS-901 "Baikal" is being built in the Urals to replace the An-2. But things are not going very smoothly there yet – the aircraft faced fuselage limitations.
