KAMAZ has prepared a special version of the K5 cabin for the Belarusian MAZ: the prototype features new mounting elements designed for installing the module on the chassis of the Minsk-made semi-trailer truck. The sample is undergoing tests, and its structural differences show how the Russian cabin is being adapted for trucks from another manufacturer.

K5 is a modern generation KAMAZ truck cabin, created under license based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros BM963. Now it is also being considered for MAZ vehicles. For this, it is not enough to use a ready-made module without changes: it is necessary to adapt its mounts and interface with a chassis of a different design.

Most of the Minsk Automobile Plant's trucks are currently equipped with their own 5440 family cabins. They were developed in the late 1980s - early 1990s. In the mid-2010s, the company tried to extend the life of this design: engineers updated the exterior panels and interior, while retaining the old frame. However, the modernized cabin was released only in a small experimental-industrial batch, after which the project was closed.

For KAMAZ, this cooperation opens up the opportunity to increase production load. The company's cabin production capacity reaches 45 thousand units per year, but due to the decline in the commercial vehicle market, less than half of it is currently utilized. Supplies for MAZ could provide additional order volume, while allowing the Belarusian manufacturer to use a more modern cabin.
