The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant is preparing to put the updated Patriot X SUV on the conveyor. According to the company's press service, serial production of both versions – gasoline and diesel – will begin in the next two weeks, i.e., by the end of October 2026. What the SUVs will be like, what might change in their appearance and interior, read in the review by 'Pervy Tekhnichesky'.

Engines and Transmission

The gasoline version will retain the familiar naturally aspirated ZMZ Pro engine with a volume of 2.7 liters, producing about 150 hp (149.6 hp) and 235 Nm.

The main novelty is a two-liter turbodiesel with 136 hp and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is already installed on Sollers ST6 pickups and Argo commercial trucks. It is reported that the engine has passed winter tests and starts at temperatures down to minus 30°C. Its production is localized in Russia.

Both engines will work with a new six-speed manual gearbox. It is assembled under license from JAC at the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (ZMZ) in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The previous five-speed BAIC gearboxes are being removed from the model. An automatic transmission (an 8-speed is expected) will appear no earlier than mid-2028.

Exterior and Interior

The appearance of the Patriot X will change due to new bumpers, full LED headlights and taillights, a slightly different radiator grille, and an updated wheel rim design.

The interior will feature a new multifunctional steering wheel with a thickened leather rim and a Russian magnesium frame, as well as a more modern center console with single-zone climate control. The transfer case can be controlled using a rotary knob instead of the usual lever. The multimedia system will receive a 9-inch screen, USB connectors, including USB-C, and two-level front seat heating are provided.

Safety

Versions with a six-speed manual gearbox will feature a modernized TCS NAMI active safety system. It develops the previous ABS NAMI system and includes several electronic assistants.

The complex includes traction control, hill start assist, and emergency braking assist. An electronic differential lock is also provided, which helps the car maintain traction in difficult conditions.
