Russian designers have refined the model of a promising second-generation supersonic aircraft, the noise level of which will allow it to fly over populated areas. This was announced by the Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergey Chernyshev.
He noted that the Soviet Tu-144 was the first supersonic aircraft in the world. However, the main obstacle then was the strong sonic boom over cities. With the development of technology, this problem has been overcome.
50 years later, we have demonstrated that we are ready to create a supersonic aircraft that will be in harmony with the environment. Its noise level can be compared to the noise of a car door slamming, it will not be higher than the usual noise in the city.
Chernyshev added that aircraft designers have worked out 5–6 critical technologies related to aerodynamics and engines, and have also achieved a reduction in fuel consumption. As a result, the new supersonic aircraft became quieter at a speed of 1.5–2 times the speed of sound.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov stated to «Первый технический», that the new supersonic aircraft may be equipped with a 177S engine, originally developed for tactical aviation. With this scenario, the hydromechanical control system can be removed and only the electronic one left, then the production of the power plant will be simplified.
