Work on the assembly of the import-substituted composite "black" wing of the next set of MC-21 aircraft has begun in workshop No. 249 at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. This was reported by the United Aircraft Corporation (part of Rostec State Corporation).
Specifically, this division is focused on the final assembly operations before transferring the product to the final assembly shop.
At station F10, the cantilever parts of the wing (KCHK) are joined to the fuselage. Next, the KCHK assembly department lays the onboard cable network, installs a complex control system, anti-icing and hydraulic systems, as well as an air extraction system.
UAC clarified that the main task of the workshop is to assemble an import-substituted wing. Flap beams have already been installed on the prototype aircraft, and the slat tracks have been installed and adjusted.
In parallel, the onboard cable network and removable buffer compartments are being installed, and small mechanization, slat and flap transmission are being assembled.
After assembling and adjusting the wing mechanization transmission, the division will begin installing and adjusting the large MC-21 units.
Chief Designer of the MC-21 Vitaly Naryshkin noted that the composite wing during testing performed flawlessly. Aviation expert Roman Gusarov, in an interview with "The First Technical", clarified that if wingtips are installed on the wing, fuel efficiency may increase.
