Two months ago, the testing of the first unmanned train in Russia started on the Big Circle Line of the capital's metro. The train was created on the basis of the domestic "Moscow-2024" model. Testing takes place without passengers, but a driver is present in the cabin - he controls the operation of the system, as required by law. During all the testing time, the specialist never interfered with the control: the automation proved its reliability, said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
The innovative train has already traveled more than 1000 kilometers on the BCL. The software for the train, infrastructure and dispatching was developed by specialists from the Center for Research and Development of Unmanned Transport.
The system independently accelerates and decelerates the train, opens and closes doors at stations. It instantly reacts to the appearance of foreign objects on the tracks and monitors traffic intervals.
By the end of 2026, the unmanned train will start running on the BCL without passengers, but already in the general flow with other trains, observing standard intervals - up to 90 seconds during peak hours. The first trips with passengers are planned for 2027, and by 2030 Moscow should have the first fully unmanned metro line.
