The developer of the Tu-160 strategic bomber, Tupolev (part of the United Aircraft Corporation), is considering the possibility of switching to aviation biofuel. At a strategic session within the framework of the Russian Engineer Congress at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, experts discussed the prospects and barriers to the development of Russian "green" aviation.
At the center of the discussion are the prospects for using sustainable aviation biofuel on international flights and the impact of new environmental requirements on the aviation industry.
The head of Tupolev, Alexey Shadanov, emphasized that the transition to new fuel is becoming inevitable due to pressure from international environmental standards.
The creation of and transition to Russian biofuel is a relevant topic, considering the fines and environmental fees imposed by ICAO. At the same time, it must be fully interchangeable with traditional aviation kerosene and meet technical specifications without making changes to the design of aircraft.
The project is currently in the research and development stage. Gazprom Neft, Vkusno i tochka, Sobirator, Ecoway, CIAM, and GosNII GA are participating in the pilot program.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia will earn billions of dollars for the aviation industry by producing the SJ-100 abroad.
