New Problems Arise with SSJ-100 Aircraft Doors: Winter Will Not Spare Them

Water Accumulates in the Sealing Rubber Profile

The winter period is the most difficult in the operation of any aircraft. At the same time, design flaws are difficult to fix already in operation.

A technician of the SSJ-100 "Superjet" said that in winter there is a small problem with the doors on the plane, which manifests itself specifically in winter.

The thing is that water accumulates in the lower part of the door, namely in the sealing rubber profile. In flight, it freezes, there are no problems when opening, but after closing, a problem may arise in translating the armed/disarmed handle.

The problem is that the ice in the sealing profile does not allow the door to sit tighter, due to this, the inflatable slide bar cannot enter the engagement. Everything is solved simply by heating the lower part of the door with hot air and removing moisture.

According to the specialist, it is unclear why the designers did not initially make holes for draining the accumulated moisture in the lower part of the profile.

This would avoid the accumulation of moisture inside the profile. I want to say that this happens quite rarely, but still this could have been avoided.
