The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) announced the preparation of a certification conclusion on the strength of the MC-21 stabilizer based on the results of a complex test program. The customer for the work was PJSC Yakovlev.
The stabilizer was tested for both overall and local strength. In particular, the tests determined the stress state of the hinge joints, the stabilizer adjustment mechanism, and the elevator.
The results of the experiments have been transferred to PJSC Yakovlev for preparing a certification conclusion on the strength of the MC-21 stabilizer. In addition, TsAGI is currently conducting strength tests of imported passenger cabin lighting glass. Research on cockpit glass and Russian-made floor elements of the airliner will begin in the near future.
The adjustable stabilizer is part of the empennage, providing stability and balance of the aircraft in all flight modes.
