The Russian ultra-high thrust aircraft engine PD-35 could become the basis for the most extensive modernization of the Il-96 passenger aircraft in its history. The technology demonstrator has already completed the first stage of ground tests, performing more than 50 launches.

In parallel, engineers are already working on a new modification – the PD-26, which is being created based on PD-35 technologies and will have less thrust.

This will expand the range of domestic engines for promising passenger and transport aircraft.

According to the United Engine Corporation, the creation of a new wide-body airliner for the PD-35 could take up to 10 years.

At the same time, the Il-96-400M family is already being considered as one of the main platforms for integrating the new engine, which could open a new page in the development of long-haul aviation for the Russian aircraft industry.
