MAI Creates a Device That Will Make Airplanes Lighter and More Economical

It Can Significantly Affect the Weight Reduction and Fuel Efficiency of Aircraft

Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) has developed a new DC-DC converter for aircraft power supply systems. The development can significantly affect the fuel efficiency of aircraft and weight reduction.

This compact and lightweight device has a power of 30 kW and efficiently converts high on-board voltage to low voltage with minimal losses.

The innovative approach consists of switching transistors in the moment when the voltage or current on them is zero. This minimizes energy loss and heating, achieving an efficiency of 95% or higher.

The device is based on phase-width pulse modulation technology. We use four high-speed electronic switches that apply and disconnect high voltage to the transformer at a frequency of 60 thousand times per second. By controlling the phase shift between the pulses, we accurately regulate the amount of energy transferred.

Earlier, the United Engine Corporation created an autonomous fault-tolerant gas turbine engine control system. It will ensure the operation of the power plant even in the event of a complete power loss.
