The Sakhalin Region has become the first Russian region to start using a unified drone identification system based on ERA-GLONASS. This was reported by the press service of the regional government.
The platform was developed by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. From March 1, 2026, all civil aircraft weighing more than 250 g must be connected to it.
The unified identification system allows:
- see the drone track
- accumulate data on the drone's movement (time and speed)
- find out information about the UAV operator
The new solution helps to ensure the transparency of UAS use, and also mitigates the current flight bans in the regions of the country.
Far Eastern example
The Governor of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko, said that "Aurora-BAS" was created on the basis of the local airline "Aurora" to organize drone flights. Now the drones belonging to it fly according to the rules of civil aviation. Thus, new technologies are being introduced into all sectors of the economy, the head of the region emphasized.
Thanks to their use, as well as the use of artificial intelligence, we have reduced the area of forest fires by 40 times.
Drones also detect fires, help monitor congestion in rivers and the flood situation. In total, the region is working on over 70 drone application scenarios.
