Running Bridge Installed on "Chukotka" Nuclear Icebreaker — 170-ton Structure Takes Its Place

Baltic Shipyard Completes Installation of Key Control Element on Fifth Icebreaker of Project 22220

Baltic Shipyard, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), has completed the installation of the running bridge on the fifth universal nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 — "Chukotka". The structure weighs 170 tons and is 34 meters wide. The two-tiered superstructure was installed using the "Demag" floating crane, which allowed the complete formation of the forward part of the above-deck part of the vessel.

The running bridge will serve as the main command center of the icebreaker, where captains will control the vessel and lead convoys of ships through the Arctic ice. After the completion of the installation work, the plant's specialists will begin equipping the bridge — installing navigation systems, communication equipment, and laying all the necessary engineering communications.
