Russia has abandoned the project to develop a unified modular platform (EMP) for automobiles. The reason given was budget constraints. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Anton Alikhanov.
Without government support, our manufacturers, unfortunately, will not be able to handle such costs at the moment.
According to Anton Alikhanov, the Ministry of Industry and Trade decided to focus on localizing the production of critical components (parts for automobiles, including electric and hybrid versions).
It is worth noting that 160 billion rubles were supposed to be allocated for the development of the EMP in 2024. The funds were intended to be allocated in installments over the next five years. AvtoVAZ, GAZ, and KamAZ were planned to be involved in the project, and FSUE NAMI was the main developer of the platform.
