Russia Solved Carbon Fiber Problem for MC-21-310 Aircraft

The chemical industry has focused on carbon fiber materials with polymers and ceramics

The Russian chemical industry has proven its capabilities and adaptability to strategic tasks by solving the carbon fiber problem for the MC-21 aircraft. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.

He noted that the national project in the industry will ensure the production of more than 700 critical chemical products.

The industry is focusing on materials that combine carbon fibers with polymers, ceramics, and metals. In the past, we proved that we can quickly adapt industries to strategic tasks by solving the carbon fiber problem for the MC-21 aircraft.
Denis Manturov, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation

Manturov added that Russian composites are used to build both aircraft engine and helicopter parts, as well as products for shipbuilding.

The founder of the flight safety service RunAvia, Andrei Patrakov, explained to «Первому техническому» that the import substitution of composites for the MC-21 wing resulted in a heavier structure, which led to a decrease in range and performance, effectively returning the project to the level of the Soviet Tu-154.
