Bryansk Machine-Building Plant (BMZ) has sent two TEM18DM shunting locomotives to Mongolia to replenish the rolling stock of the Ulaanbaatar Railway (UBZD). The delivery continues the long-term cooperation between the Russian manufacturer and the Mongolian transport company, whose fleet already operates over 20 units of this model.
TEM18DM locomotives are included in the Register of Russian Industrial Products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and meet all the requirements for rolling stock operating in the Far North and other regions with extremely low temperatures. Their design takes into account the specifics of the Mongolian climate - from sharp temperature changes to dusty steppe conditions.
The ТЭМ18ДМ shunting locomotive, mass-produced at BMZ since 2008, is equipped with a 1200 kW (approximately 1600 hp) diesel generator and an alternating-direct current electric transmission. The locomotive is capable of speeds up to 100 km/h and a tractive effort of up to 290 kN, making it effective for both shunting and transfer operations at stations and industrial access tracks.
Particular attention in the design is paid to maintainability: most components and assemblies have a modular layout and are easily accessible for maintenance. The TEM18DM is also equipped with automatic control systems for diesel and traction motor parameters, as well as a modern driver's cab with improved ergonomics and climate control.
