The revival of Orel-Yuzhny Airport is being postponed again. After several postponements, it has become known that the air harbor, which has not been operating since 2010, will not be able to receive its first flights until 2028.
Initially, the restart was planned for 2024, then for 2025. However, the reconstruction faced serious problems. The contract with the previous contractor, the Moscow company Irmast-Holding, was terminated due to improper performance of obligations. A new contract was concluded in July 2025 with the Yakut company Alliance-2005. The contract amount is 2.2 billion rubles, and funding is scheduled in stages until 2028 - when the airport is expected to open.
To date, the contractor has begun the second phase of reconstruction. In mid-September, 36 specialists and 14 pieces of equipment were working on the site. The plans include completing the renovation of the runway, apron and airport terminal to bring the facility up to modern safety and service standards.
A year ago, the Russian government supported the construction of the second phase of the airport in Orel.
