Two Russian Be-200 amphibious firefighting aircraft will remain in Turkey to extinguish forest fires at least until the beginning of September, RIA Novosti was told by a source familiar with the situation. The crews of the aircraft have already been replaced.
The aircraft are based at an airfield in Izmir and fly to all incoming assignments, working in different regions of Turkey. The first two Be-200s arrived in the southwest of the country in June.

The twin-engine Be-200 turboprop has no analogues in the world. The Be-200ChS modification is designed for firefighting, search and rescue operations, delivery of rescuers and equipment, as well as evacuation of victims from the water. The aircraft can be operated from class "B" airfields with a runway length of 1.8 thousand meters and from the surface of water bodies with a depth of at least two meters and waves up to three points. The crew consists of two people.
The aircraft is equipped with two turbojet engines with a thrust of 7.5 tons each. The maximum take-off weight in the fire-fighting version reaches 37.9 tons. The Be-200 is capable of carrying 72 passengers or up to 7.5 tons of cargo. The maximum water supply in firefighting is 12 tons, while in one refueling the aircraft can drop up to 320 tons of water on the fire. The cruising speed is 710 kilometers per hour, the flight range with an emergency fuel supply for one hour is 3.6 thousand kilometers.
In July, the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey was surrounded by forest fires. Russian Be-200s and Mi-8s joined the extinguishing.
