New Russian aircraft developed according to the "flying wing" scheme will provide fuel savings of up to 20% compared to traditional airliners. This was reported by the MAKS air show.
The development is already underway at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N. E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI), whose specialists presented their own concept of a long-range aircraft in a new integrated layout.
According to Kirill Sypalo, General Director of TsAGI, this concept is considered one of the priority areas in the work.
Developers emphasize that the "flying wing" scheme significantly reduces noise levels, which is especially important for megacities.
TsAGI is also conducting work in other promising areas — for example, on a laminar wing with a small sweep and a teardrop-shaped fuselage for business jets.
