The United Engine Corporation (part of the Rostec State Corporation) has completed the development of a digital twin of the AI-222-25 aircraft engine for Yak-130 training aircraft. The project was implemented on the PC "Salyut", and developed on the basis of the domestic CML-Bench platform from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Specialists from CIAM named after P.I. Baranov and the Moscow Aviation Institute also participated in the development of the digital twin.
As noted in the UEC, the creation of a digital twin was carried out in several stages. At the first stage, thousands of parts that make up the standard serial AI-222-25 engine were digitized. This twin is already used to assess the impact of changes that occur during operation on the condition of the engine structure.
Now work is underway on a digital twin of the modernized version of the AI-222-25:
- gas-dynamic models of units have been built and refined;
- the structure has been developed and the data transfer formats from one model to another have been determined;
- complex computer models of the gas generator of the modernized engine have been created — thermomechanical, hydraulic and gas-dynamic.
The developers also created and implemented automated calculation chains. With their help, digital modeling and analysis of the operation of all units is carried out to track technical parameters when changes are made to the engine design.
It is expected that the advanced technology will improve the performance of the power plant and design components of new modifications of the AI-222-25 with lower time and material costs. In addition, the digital twin will reduce the amount of testing required to certify the unit.
Earlier it became known that the certification of the new Russian PD-8 aircraft engine for the SJ-100 will be accelerated by its digital twin. Thus, engine builders will reduce the full-scale tests of the PD-8, this will not affect the safety of the engine.
