A new tethered drone with the function of recording traffic violations was demonstrated in Innopolis at the "InnoPark" technology park. This was reported by Dmitry Devitt, Head of the Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems at Innopolis University.
The novelty is based on the InnoDrone quadcopter (developed at Innopolis University in 2023) and is equipped with a tethered power system. The drone can monitor an object 24/7 at a height of up to 50 meters. The device operates at temperatures from -30 to +55 °C and wind speeds up to 10 m/s.
According to Dmitry Devitt, the system recognizes license plates and classifies traffic violations through integrated artificial intelligence (AI).
We are now very accurately determining driving into the oncoming lane and detecting license plates. In the future, about 20 more different violations can be identified with this complex.
The novelty has already been tested in the traffic police of Tatarstan. The authors of the project plan to refine and implement the drone for work in the traffic police. The device is also planned to be used as an alternative to aerostats for monitoring order on the roads.
Earlier www1.ru reported that in the Kirov region, more than 120 traffic offenders were identified with the help of drones.
