The Tver Carriage Works (part of Transmashholding) showcased the new "Ivolga 5.0 CTU" electric train to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and acting Governor of Tver Oblast Vitaly Korolev. After assembly is completed by the end of the month, it will be sent for certification tests.

The new train is designed for interregional routes of the Central Transport Unit (CTU). The novelty differs from the previous modification "Ivolga 4.0" by an increased number of seats: from 646 to 747 seating places in an eleven-car train. Doors have been moved to the edges of the cars, space for hand luggage has been expanded, and places for bulky luggage and racks have been added.

Technical rooms with a coffee machine, refrigerator, and food warming device have appeared in the intermediate cars. The train has six sanitary modules, and the head cars are equipped with toilets for passengers with limited mobility. The width of the doorways is 1400 mm, and inter-car passages are 1000 mm. The design speed is 160 km/h with an acceleration of 1 m/s². The share of Russian components is 97%.

The project was implemented in record time – from setting the task to implementation took about six months. The first trains will be handed over to the customer at the end of the year; a total of 17 trains are planned for delivery under the contract. By 2030, 100 new trains are planned to be ordered for the development of the CTU, of which 45 "Ivolga 5.0" trains will go to the Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kursk directions, and another 55 to the Yaroslavl direction.
