The AGR holding and the Chinese company Defetoo have established a joint venture, AGT, in Yelabuga for the industrial production of transmissions, writes "Realnoe Vremya". Investments in the project are estimated at 2 to 4.5 billion rubles. The shares are distributed as 51% for AGR and 49% for the Chinese side.
Officially, the partners announced the creation of the Center for Automotive Research and Development (CAIRD), which will focus on component localization, certification, testing, and product validation. According to sources, the transmission production program preliminarily includes the entire complex of units: clutch, gearbox, driveshaft, transfer case, and other elements. The goal is to fulfill localization obligations for Chery concern vehicles and its sub-brands, including Jeland, which are assembled at AGR's Russian plants.
Experts interviewed by the publication emphasize that there is still no full-scale independent production of transmissions in Russia. Sollers assembles gearboxes at the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, but from imported components, and the Kamsky Mechanical Plant has only mastered the full cycle of producing gears for KamAZ reducers. Transmission localization adds about 600 points to assembled models, allowing them to achieve the maximum level of localization and qualify for admission to taxis and government procurement.
