Russian specialists have begun designing a fully domestic tanker for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) on Arctic routes. This was announced by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at the plenary session of the "Innoprom-2026" industrial exhibition in Yekaterinburg.

In the future, it could form the basis of the cargo fleet on the strategic routes of the Northern Sea Route.

The head of government recalled that the first Arctic LNG carriers — "Konstantin Posyet" and "Alexey Kosygin" — were built in Primorsky Krai. According to him, 3 more similar ice-class vessels will be commissioned in the coming years.

The tanker "Alexey Kosygin" was built at the "Zvezda" shipbuilding complex in Bolshoy Kamen. It was put into operation at the end of 2025. In June 2026, the gas carrier "Konstantin Posyet" was handed over to the customer. Both vessels are designed to transport more than 170 cubic meters of LNG.
