Vulnerabilities Are Growing Faster Than Protection: Banking Applications Now Have 10 Times More of Them

The overall threat level is shifting toward more critical problems

Over the past two years, the number of critical and high-severity vulnerabilities in financial applications has increased tenfold. This was reported by Vedomosti, citing a study by AppSec Solutions that analyzed about 90 applications of banks, microfinance organizations, and insurance companies.

In total, specialists found 3,555 vulnerabilities, of which more than 2,000 were classified as dangerous. For comparison, in 2023, despite a higher total number of issues - about 4,500 - there were only 183 critical and high-severity ones. In 2024, the total number of vulnerabilities dropped to 1,583, but the share of serious ones rose sharply, to 569.

Experts note that financial applications are currently leading all industries in the number of dangerous vulnerabilities.

This directly affects users: such weak points can allow attackers to gain access to personal data and banking details, increasing the risks of fraud and theft of money.
