The Kaluga plant "AGK" has launched a new line in test mode for the production of automobile engines with a capacity of 150,000 units per year at the first stage. This was reported by Kaluga Region Governor Vladislav Shapsha.
According to him, in the second half of 2026, the site plans to launch the mechanical processing of key powertrain components.
Since March, under equipment test operation mode, production of a 1.6-liter engine with an output of 150–197 hp has been launched.
Shapsha added that testing of a 1.5-liter engine with an output of 147 hp will also begin in August.
It is worth noting that 150,000 units cover more than 11% of total demand for new passenger cars in the country, based on 2025 sales levels. If expanded to 300,000 units, the plant will be able to supply engines for every fourth or fifth new car in the country.
The former Volkswagen Group Rus plant is now producing Tenet passenger cars in T4, T7, and T8 modifications; in 2025 it produced more than 100,000 vehicles.
