India plans to modernize the S-400 "Triumf" air defense systems it is purchasing from Russia by reinforcing them with new missiles and changing their deployment tactics. This was reported by IDRW.
This concerns an additional purchase of five divisions and the adaptation of the system to modern threats, primarily massive drone attacks.
According to the publication, some of the systems will be equipped with compact and highly maneuverable 9M96E and 9M96E2 missiles. Such interceptors make it possible to increase the ammunition load to 16 small-sized missiles per launcher, which will allow repelling an attack by an entire swarm of drones.
At the same time, India is considering the purchase of Pantsir-S1M anti-aircraft missile and gun systems for close-range cover of Triumf divisions. These systems are intended to engage low-flying targets such as drones, cruise missiles, and precision-guided weapons.
Earlier it became known that India had officially approved a large-scale package of measures to modernize the Armed Forces totaling $25 billion, which includes the purchase from Russia of five S-400 "Triumf" SAM systems.
