AI Impact on Employment in Russia: Local Reductions Possible, No Mass Layoffs

Experts predict a growing demand for AI engineers and process automation specialists

The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in Russia is not yet expected to lead to mass layoffs, according to experts surveyed by Vedomosti. Technologies are transforming work, increasing efficiency, and creating new professions, but the number of employees in large companies remains stable.

AI helps solve the problem of staff shortages by redistributing employees and automating routine tasks. Experts note that in the coming years, layoffs will be local and mainly concern operations with repetitive actions: data processing, report preparation, basic programming, and standard communications. At the same time, in areas such as trade, IT, finance, science, education, and culture, the introduction of AI will completely close the need for personnel.

Large companies confirm: the number of personnel remains stable, but AI increases efficiency. At Rostelecom, the introduction of technologies affects the speed and quality of work, not the staff. At Sber and MWS, neural networks help to process resumes and tests faster, and at X5, they help manage marketing and analytical processes without increasing the number of employees. A local reduction effect is possible in retail, logistics, marketplaces, banks, and cargo transportation.

Against the background of market transformation, the demand for new professions is growing. Experts note the demand for AI engineers, AI quality specialists, prompt engineers, and AI solution architects, as well as specialists in model optimization and process automation. Neural networks are actively used for data analysis, personalized marketing, product modeling, and recruitment support.
