VK-605V Engine Outperforms Canadian Counterpart in Efficiency

Flight range of Ansat helicopter increased from 500 to 640 km

The domestic VK-650V aircraft engine has significantly improved its characteristics after modernization, outperforming its foreign counterpart. This was stated by Sergey Chemezov, head of the Rostec State Corporation.

According to him, thanks to improvements in the power plant, it was also possible to increase the flight range of the Ansat helicopter. Chemezov recalled that the rotorcraft was originally created in collaboration with foreign companies.

Today we have made our own engine. It turned out to be much better than the foreign one. The flight range has increased, if it used to be 500 km, today it is about 640 km. The avionics have been completely replaced with Russian ones. The helicopter has become more efficient.

As a reminder, before the advent of the VK-650V, Canadian Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207K engines were used on Ansat helicopters.

Main characteristics of VK-650V:

  • Engine type — turboshaft
  • Take-off power — 650 hp
  • Maximum power — up to 750 hp

ODK-Klimov is preparing to launch a program for after-sales service of VK-650V engines, which will be valid throughout the entire life cycle of the unit.
