India to Spend Five Years Mastering SJ-100 with PD-8: Entry into Elite Aviation Club is Expensive

Aviation Expert Gusarov: For the Republic, This Step is a Fantastic Startup into a Bright Future

HAL Aviation Concern in India is preparing to launch the assembly of the now Russian-Indian SJ-100 airliner, which will fill the niche of regional transportation in the country. Aviation expert and editor-in-chief of Avia.ru portal, Roman Gusarov, told "Perviy Technicheskiy" about the timeframe in which the project can be launched.

According to him, India wants to develop competencies in the field of aircraft construction. Even just the final assembly of the SJ-100 is very technological; Russia also learned from it 15 years ago.

Before that, airplanes were built on slipways, like ships, but now everything is arranged quite differently. But it will take India five years to master the technology; it is necessary to create workshops, find personnel, and find machines.
Roman Gusarov, aviation expert

The specialist emphasized that assembling the SJ-100 with PD-8 for India is a fantastic startup into a bright future, but it still needs to learn.

The road will be mastered by the walker, if they take a risk and invest, it will be a good move, but the price of entry into the elite club is very high.

It should be reminded that the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec Group) will begin supplying import-substituted SJ-100s with PD-8 engines to Russian airlines only in 2026. At the same time, there is no information even about the timing of the completion of certification.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a Mi-8T helicopter is being sold in Russia for the price of a Lada Vesta.
