A new carbon fiber wheel has been developed and presented by engineers from the "Youth Design Bureau" at Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The use of carbon fiber has significantly reduced the weight of the wheel, which, in turn, will positively affect the car's dynamics, handling, and fuel efficiency.
The technology of thermocompression molding and pressing in aluminum tooling made it possible to create a monolithic structure with high strength and rigidity at minimal weight. This provides not only improved performance characteristics but also increased safety. Carbon fiber, unlike traditional metal alloys, has high corrosion resistance, which increases the service life of the product.
The applicability of the wheel to the Crimea roadster, as well as to the Kalina and Granta models, opens up wide prospects for its use in the domestic market. This could be an incentive for the further development of composite material production technologies in Russia and their introduction into the automotive industry.
