Mi-8 helicopter burned with garbage: almost 600 million rubles were not recovered from the perpetrator

The amount of recovery was recognized as excessive in court

The courts refused to recover 575 million rubles from Rosgvardia officer Nikolai Novoselov for the destruction of a Mi-8 helicopter with landing equipment.

The Southern District Military Court considered an appeal against the verdict of officer Nikolai Novoselov. The military investigation of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation accused the defendant of committing a crime under Art. 286 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code.

According to the investigation, on September 4, 2024, Novoselov, while on the territory of the airfield, ordered to burn garbage collected in a specially prepared pit. The fire spread to dry grass and then to the helicopter, which contained fuel, rescue and parachute landing equipment, as well as pyrotechnic equipment. As a result, the fire destroyed all this, causing damage to the aviation regiment in the amount of 574 million 229 thousand 709 rubles.

Nikolai Novoselov fully admitted his guilt, and the court reclassified the charge to negligence (Article 293 of the Criminal Code), which resulted in especially large damages. For this, the serviceman was fined 350 thousand rubles and deprived of the right to hold positions related to organizational and administrative functions in the civil service for a year.

The civil claim of the military unit for the recovery of material damage in the amount of 574.2 million rubles was partially satisfied, and 5 million rubles were recovered from the convicted person in favor of the injured regiment.

Representatives of the aviation regiment did not agree with the decision of the Novocherkassk Garrison Military Court and insisted on recovering the entire damage. However, the state prosecution supported Novoselov. His guilt was established, but the amount of recovery was recognized as excessive, taking into account his income and the presence of young children.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that a batch of the latest Ka-52 Alligator helicopters was transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces.
