Specialists from the UEC-Kuznetsov enterprise held a demonstration of the latest aircraft engine technologies in Samara. More than 1,500 visitors came to the interactive platform.
One of the points of attraction was a full-size mock-up of the AM-38F aircraft engine made on a 3D printer. It was based on a genuine engine produced at the Samara enterprise during the Great Patriotic War.
Samara is a major industrial center with a strong design school and a high demand for technical professions.
The uniqueness of the exhibit lies not only in its scale and realism, but also in the technology of its creation. 3D printing made it possible to recreate the complex engine design in the shortest possible time and with minimal costs, while preserving historical accuracy. Specialists carefully studied the drawings and photographs of the original AM-38F in order to accurately convey all the features of the design.
Mikulin AM-38 is a Soviet piston aircraft engine designed by A. A. Mikulin. It is a further development of the AM-34 engine. The AM-38 was used on MiG-3 and Il-2 aircraft during the Second World War. The creation of the AM-38 engine was another strategic breakthrough in domestic engine building.
