At the international exhibition "NEVA-2025," which will be held in St. Petersburg from September 23 to 26, the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) will present a new development — Russia's first unified platform for building river-sea class vessels. The project promises to be a turning point for the industry.
The platform is based on the chemical tanker project 19900M and allows for the simultaneous design and construction of three types of vessels: universal dry cargo ships, container ships, and tankers of the PC R2 class. This solution simplifies production and reduces costs.
According to Boris Bogomolov, Deputy General Director of USC for Engineering, the main goal of the project is to reduce the cost of construction and shorten the delivery time of vessels. This is planned to be achieved through maximum unification — identical solutions in layout, technical equipment, and equipment composition. This means that components will be interchangeable, and their range will be reduced by approximately 20%.
The developers have provided for complete matching of the propulsion and steering complex, unified diesel generators, unified equipment for boiler plants, thrusters, and pumping systems. Only the number of units will differ depending on the purpose of the vessel. As a result, operating and maintenance costs are reduced, and serial production becomes predictable in terms of timing.
The trend towards standardization is actively developing in other countries as well — from South Korea to Germany. Unified platforms allow for faster fleet renewal and maintaining competitiveness in the global market. For Russia, where most cargo transportation takes place along inland waterways, this is especially relevant: new vessels will be able to replace outdated projects and increase the throughput capacity of ports.
