The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec) has begun work on a new MC-21-500 aircraft, according to three sources familiar with the project implementation and independent of each other.
Currently, the MC-21-500 is in the concept development stage. It is assumed that it should be a medium-sized aircraft with a range of 8-9 thousand km and a capacity of 250-270 passengers. Presumably, the aircraft will be able to fly around the whole of Russia - from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad.
Sources claim that the project has the working title MC-21-500. Apparently, the matter will not be limited to "stretching" the existing narrow-body MC-21s, and we are talking about a new aircraft.
It is too early to talk about the timing, the work is still at the stage of concept and appearance development. However, unification with the already finished narrow-body family gives hope that the liner is not far off.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia is completing the construction of 7 new aircraft, 3 helicopters and 6 aircraft engines.
