First Russian Gas Compressor Passes Testing

The tests were conducted at a domestic test facility — the only one in Europe

The D.V. Efremov Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus (NIIEFA JSC, part of Rosatom) has successfully tested a low-temperature compressor for pumping liquefied gas. This was reported by the institute's press service.

"Cold" tests of the low-temperature compressor were carried out on gaseous nitrogen. Such equipment is in demand in the process of pumping liquefied natural gas (LNG) and in the technological cycles of its production plants.

This is the first compressor for boil-off gas produced in Russia, which, accordingly, was tested for the first time at our test facility — the third in the world and the only one in Europe.

“Cold” tests at the NIIEFA JSC test facility were conducted in Russia for the first time and consisted of several stages. To confirm the characteristics of the compressor unit, the pressure-flow, temperature and energy parameters of the device, as well as its vibration state, were monitored. The weight of the unit is 17 tons, the body length is about 3 meters, and the mass gas flow rate is 76 tons per hour.

Specialists of NIIEFA JSC developed a program and methodology for testing, solved technical and technological issues, including the integration of a 6 MW electric motor into the test bench system. During the testing, no inconsistencies were identified, and the boil-off gas compressor passed all tests the first time.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a method for processing liquid radioactive sodium coolant was created at Rosatom.
