Photos of field tests of the latest T-90M tank at the Uralvagonzavod test site (part of Rostec) have appeared online. The combat vehicle received the Arena-M active protection system (APS).
The main detail of the novelty is the rotation of the antenna array of the receiving module of the radar station (AESA) for initiating an interceptor projectile by 15-20 degrees, noted military analyst Evgeny Damantsev.
The complex, unlike the early configuration of the Arena-M AESA, provides a beam elevation angle of up to 40 degrees.
Against the background of a huge list of anti-tank weapons diving at angles of 50-85 degrees, from FPV drones to dropped tandem cumulative munitions such as PG-7VR, this is not enough, but this is already a noticeable movement in the right direction.
The AESA detects a projectile, anti-tank missile, or enemy munition directed at the tank, calculates their trajectory, and fires a protective projectile that destroys the target in flight with a beam of damaging elements.
