Three ships of the Karelia project 00840 are being built at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant

In the ship assembly shop of the Krasnoye Sormovo plant, the installation of the sixth block on the Karelia project 00840 motor ship has been completed. We are talking about the stern - the largest part of the ship.

The work lasted several hours. The process was closely watched by the heads of the Karelia project, the chief engineer, heads of production departments, design engineers and even the future captain of the ship.

The stern is the largest part of the ship. It takes workers from two to three months to produce this block.
Albert Melkonyan, Chief Builder of the Krasnoye Sormovo Plant

The Krasnoye Sormovo shipbuilding enterprise is building three ships of the Karelia project 00840. The design took into account the experience gained in the development, construction and operation of the Mustai Karim motor ship (project PV300).

The first ship built under project 00840 has already received its name. It was named in honor of Nikolai Sergeevich Zharkov, an outstanding Russian shipbuilder, Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation. Nikolai Sergeevich headed the Krasnoye Sormovo enterprise for more than 30 years.

The Karelia liners are steel ships with two rotary rudder propellers, a vertical stem and a transom stern. They have a four-story superstructure and a bow wheelhouse for control. The engine is located in the rear of the ship.

Ship dimensions:

  •  length — 131 meters;
  • width — 13.8 meters;
  • draft — 2.9 meters;
  • speed — 22 kilometers per hour.

There can be 97 crew members and 183 passengers on board.

Earlier, the Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation began developing sea-going hydrofoil vessels. Currently, discussions are underway with customers and all the necessary documentation is being prepared to launch the project.
