NUST MISIS has developed new titanium alloys with high ductility and optimal properties for the production of complex parts in the aviation, medical, and transport industries. This was reported by the university's press service.
Alloying elements in a certain amount contributed to improved ductility at lower temperatures. We found that adding elements with high diffusion can help create titanium alloys suitable for forming at reduced temperatures.
Titanium is used in the aerospace industry and medicine due to its strength, lightness, and corrosion resistance. However, the wider use of titanium alloys is limited by the complexity of their processing.
Scientists have solved this problem. They managed to select a combination of additives that provide superplastic properties to the alloy at temperatures of 625-775 °C (100-200°C lower than for traditional titanium alloys).
Upon reaching this temperature, the alloy is capable of elongating by 600-1000%. This improves the process of forming products.
The increased ductility of the new alloy will allow the production of complex geometry parts and reduce the number of defective products. In addition, lower forming temperatures will help save energy in the production process.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian scientists were able to significantly improve the characteristics of nickelide titanium.
