The U.S. Department of Commerce has agreed to ban the import and sale of passenger cars with internet access if they use technology from Russia or China in their production.
According to Bloomberg, the decision is based on the findings of the Bureau of Industry and Security, which reported "excessive and unacceptable risks to U.S. security" associated with the use of such technologies.
The ban also applies to vehicles manufactured by companies with Russian or Chinese participation. The measures are aimed at preventing the use of technologies that, according to U.S. authorities, could be used to collect data in the interests of foreign states.
