Russia Explores Potential for Nuclear Projects in Vietnam

Russia is exploring cooperation options with Vietnam in the field of low-carbon energy

Russia and Vietnam are exploring new areas of cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on low-carbon technologies, including nuclear energy, solar, and wind generation.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, while on a visit to Hanoi, announced Russia's readiness to develop projects with Vietnam in the field of "green" transport, nuclear generation, and supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

On Tuesday, January 14, JSC "Rosatom Energo Projects" (RЭP, a Rosatom structure engaged in promoting energy projects abroad) and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) signed a memorandum of understanding on developing cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Mishustin noted Vietnam's desire to develop in the field of digitalization of public administration and pointed to Russia's readiness to share its expertise in areas such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Russia and Vietnam are deepening industrial cooperation, including projects in mechanical engineering. An example is the joint production of cars, which are exported to neighboring countries in the region, Mishustin noted.

Also under consideration are joint projects for the development of river electric transport, the supply of Russian industrial products with a low carbon footprint, and the expansion of logistics capabilities.
