By the end of 2024, Russia plans to assemble 17.5 thousand electric vehicles, which will be about 2.2% of the total number of cars planned for production. Last year, the production of electric vehicles amounted to just over 9,700 units, and the increase in production this year reached almost 80%. Next year, Russian enterprises also intend to continue to increase production volumes.
Currently, the Russian market features models from four domestic manufacturers: Evolute, «Лада», «Москвич» and «Амберавто».
In mid-2025, the electric vehicle «Атом», developed by engineers of the joint-stock company KAMAZ on the basis of KAMAZ, will be mass-produced. The five-door hatchback «Атом» will be equipped with a 204 horsepower engine and a lithium-ion battery from the «Рэнера» enterprise, which is part of the «Росатом» Group. The electric vehicle will have a range of about 500 kilometers on a single charge, and acceleration to 100 km/h will take 8 seconds.
Demand for electric vehicles among Russian car enthusiasts is actively growing, and the peak in sales this year occurred between January and March, when a historical record was set in March — 2,500 units sold in a month. At the same time, manufacturers are in no hurry to set exact plans for 2025, as the volume of production will depend on demand.
The network of charging stations in Russia also continues to expand: in 2024, their number exceeded 7,400, which is almost twice as many as in 2023. Almost half of all electric charging stations are concentrated in the Central Federal District, including Moscow, the Moscow Region, the Sakhalin Region and St. Petersburg, which have more than a thousand, 800, 500 and 460 stations, respectively.
