Innopolis University has begun testing an unmanned electric bus in an urban environment. It makes 2–3 trips a day on schedule.
The electric unmanned vehicle without pedals and a steering wheel runs between the Innopark and Innopolis University, with a stop at the Popov Technopark. The electric bus travels three kilometers in test mode in 20 minutes.
The unmanned bus transports students and university staff, with a total capacity of up to 10 passengers. The bus travels at a speed of up to 10 km/h and makes 2–3 trips per day. A full charge is enough for an average of 10 days of operation or 160 kilometers of travel.
During the tests, an operator works in the cabin, who monitors the situation and monitors other road users. This mode of autonomous transport testing is called supervisory. It is necessary to minimize the risks when operating unmanned vehicles on roads in the city. We don’t need accidents, the bus operates on the principle of “letting everyone pass” and with a software speed limit.
The unmanned bus is equipped with ultrasonic sensors, three lidars, and a camera to track lane markings, road signs, and pedestrian crossings.
