Footage has appeared online showing Russian soldiers practicing shooting with a tactical bow. The arrows act as a carrier for an explosive charge. When it hits a target approximately ten meters from the shooter, the charge detonates.
As a representative of one of the special forces units commented to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, tactical crossbows and bows have not proven themselves very well in combat missions. At least, that was the case previously.
A bow and crossbow — even modern, plastic, and folding ones — are quite bulky, while having a short range and power. You can't attach a heavy charge to an arrow — it won't hit the target. And for the covert neutralization of people, it is much more convenient to use knives and entrenching tools. They are more versatile.
However, they can still be used. The modernized weapons of the Middle Ages are not included in the official weapons and equipment of special forces units and the military.
