The 228th civil aviation airfield, Elga, has begun operating in Russia. The certificate of compliance of the airfield and the certificate of its state registration were issued in March by Oleg Voroshilov, the head of the Sakha (Yakut) Interregional Territorial Administration (MTA) of Rosaviatsia. Elga airfield has a runway length of 2.2 km.
Elga is located 358 km east of the city of Neryungri (southern Yakutia) and belongs to class "G". The airfield is equipped with an artificial runway measuring 2284 x 48 meters. In addition, the airfield has an apron for aircraft, a weather site, lighting equipment and a number of additional facilities.
The maximum type of aircraft for which the airfield is suitable for operation is the Boeing 737-800
The first flight to Elga airfield was operated on March 29 by Yakutia Airlines on a Boeing 737 aircraft from Novosibirsk's Tolmachevo Airport. Previously, when Elga only had the status of a landing site, flights here were operated on Bombardier Q300 and Superjet 100 aircraft.
Elga serves Russia's largest Elga coking coal deposit. Direct flights here will be operated from Yakutsk, Neryungri and Novosibirsk. Thanks to the availability of direct air service with these cities, the journey of employees to the Elga coal deposit has been significantly reduced - from several days to several hours.
In the future, a full-fledged airport will appear at the deposit, which will increase the level of aviation safety in the East of the country.
People are already taking advantage of shorter and more convenient routes. For the first time, about 53% of domestic flights are taking place without a transfer in Moscow. In his address to the Federal Assembly, the President set a new task for the government to increase the aviation mobility of citizens. At least 75 more airports will be renovated in six years. And we will allocate a quarter of a trillion rubles for these purposes.
According to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the aviation mobility of the population is a priority of the country's development strategy. As part of this strategy, runways were put into operation in nine cities last year.
