A workshop for assembling the "Baikal" aircraft is being built in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, and production will begin in the coming years, according to the Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexei Chekunkov. The new aircraft will replace the outdated An-2.
The assembly of the aircraft will be entrusted to the Ural company "UZGA". A unified Far Eastern airline "Aurora" has signed a contract with the enterprise for the supply of aircraft until 2030.
According to Chekunkov, the cost of the "Baikal" will depend on the configuration. VEB.rf has optimized the price of the aircraft by increasing the lease term and, accordingly, reducing the lease payment.
Whatever the cost of the aircraft, it should not affect fares
Previously, the minister said that the "Baikal" would cost more than 200 million rubles. It is expected that the new aircraft will enter the "Aurora" fleet between 2026 and 2030. This includes passenger, transport configurations, as well as aircraft for forest protection work.
Earlier it was reported that the production site in Komsomolsk-on-Amur for the assembly of the "Baikal" aircraft is underway around the clock.
